DISCOVERY CHANNEL EPISODE OF THE DAILY PLANET (6min)
Armour Group’s Martin Miller and Charley Massey were featured in the program as they highlighted the RhinoSHUTTLE®, the RhinoTAC (transportable armored capsule), and a Land Cruiser installed with a RhinoPAK® uparmor kit. All vehicles depicted in the episode are outfitted with Armour Group’s patented ONEWAY® return fire glass that allows vehicle’s occupants to shoot through the glass from the interior side, without losing protective qualities from exterior hostile fire.
The glass was tested for the program using a super slow motion camera that captured the bullets’ deflection from the exterior side, a great indicator as to the glass’ protective quality. After three shots the glass was rotated so that the inferior side faced the marksman. The cameras clearly show the bullet piercing the glass during the return fire demonstration. The return fire aspect of the glass provides an added layer of protection for personnel traveling through high risk zones…a priceless benefit that our troops deserve.

AUSA Conference as Venue to Showcase Armour Group's Products
February 27, 2012 Fort Lauderdale, FL
Armour Group's Mission to Protect Lives Showcased at Annual AUSA Exposition
Armour Group, Inc. had a strong presence at the annual Association of the United States Army (AUSA) annual exposition and symposium at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale last week. The exposition showcased top manufacturers of defense equipment to include armored trucks, armored sea interdiction vessels, ballistic glass, and other military technologies.
Over the course of the three day expo, Armour Group presented its products to hundreds of prospective clients and buyers. With a focus on customized products to meet client needs worldwide, Armour Group's unique products created quite a buzz. Showcased were patented ONEWAY® Return Fire Glass, armored vehicles, sea interdiction vessels, and the RhinoPAK® up-armor kit.
With glass on display, attendees could see firsthand the remarkable clarity and robustness of the glass and its ONEWAY® Return Fire features. ONEWAY® Return Fire Glass is the only ballistic glass on the market today that protects from the exterior, yet allows the defender from within to effectively return fire through the glass. This glass is installed in buildings and armored vehicles worldwide and offers unparalleled protection as it does not yellow or delaminate over time.
The RhinoRUNNER® was also on display. Often called "the toughest bus on the planet," the RhinoRUNNER® is fully armored and, as are all Armour Group vehicles, equipped with the ONEWAY® Return Fire Glass. Numerous Army soldiers commented on the RhinoRUNNER®, expressing sincere gratitude that the bus kept them safe during combat operations in Iraq. One Army Colonel told the Armour Group staff that he always felt safe as a passenger onboard during his deployments in Iraq. He also commented that anytime the RhinoRUNNER® was hit with massive explosions the occupants of the RhinoRUNNER® came away unscathed.
Attendees were intrigued at the fact that Armour Group manufactures all of its armored vehicles on commercial off-the-shelf chassis thus lowering lifecycle and maintenance costs. Armour Group also provides clients with the RhinoPAK® up-armor kit and ballistic glass that are customized to fit civilian vehicles on the market today. In fact, Armour Group is building and shipping RhinoPAK® to the United Nations for peace keeping operations and to other clients worldwide.
While at the exposition, Robert Tatum, CEO stated: "As political and civil unrest spreads throughout the world, we are at the helm to meet growing demand. In fact, due to the growing volume of contracts, we will soon move into a new 41,000 square foot plant. The AUSA Exposition is proving to be an excellent venue to showcase how we protect lives and meet client needs."

Armour Group builds bullet-proof business
with products manufactured in Hollywood
February 21, 2012 Fort Lauderdale, FL
Article originally appeared in The Miami Herald
At a plant near Port Everglades, workers at Fort Lauderdale-based Armour Group have stripped a large military truck to its bare metal bones and are getting ready to place 1/2 –inch armor plating around the motor, cab and fuel tank. In a closed area nearby, a technician is carefully combining layers of glass, plastic and resin to make a thick but transparent pane of anti-ballistic glass.
Armor is a big business worldwide and Armour Group is trying to make a dent in this multi-billion dollar market at its manufacturing facility, where vehicles are hardened and shipped to clients in the United States and international conflict zones.
Armour Group, established in 2010 when its three owners took over a bankrupt armor enterprise in Weston, designs and produces anti-ballistic glass, armored land transport and patrol vehicles, armored patrol boats, modular armor kits for passenger vehicles, armored mobile clinics and other items.
One product offered exclusively by Armour Group is a patented anti-ballistic glass that protects people in a guardhouse or vehicle from bullets fired by attackers outside, while allowing defenders inside to shoot through the still-resistant protective glass at their aggressors. This product is called ONEWAY®Return Fire Glass.
Armour Group currently has about 20 clients, including governments overseas, companies with personnel working in war zones, the United States military, the United Nations and police forces.
Most of its customers are anonymous, but the company's website says that it obtained a $40.4 million contract from the Afghan government for armored mobile medical facilities, transport buses and other equipment. Moreover, it provided anti-ballistic glass to the U.S. Air Force for guard posts at some air bases, armored shuttles for U.S. troops overseas and an armored passenger vehicle for a United Nations mission abroad.
"The market for secure transport vehicles alone is projected to be $26 billion worldwide," said Martin Miller, who was a pilot for the U.S. Air Force, worked in intelligence and ran a company that sold military and defense products, before becoming co-founder and president of Armour Group. "Tell us what you need to protect and we'll work with you to mitigate the threat," he added. "Our primary mission is to build the best and safest vehicles we can. People who use our vehicles are risking their lives."

Armour Group's other co-founder, CEO G. Robert Tatum, was formerly senior vice president of technology at GE and worked for many years developing security systems and risk mitigation strategies. When Weston-based Advanced Blast Protection declared bankruptcy, Tatum contacted Miller and, with the help of an investor who wanted to remain anonymous, bought most of the assets from the failed company, including patents and engineering designs. Armour Group retained some key personnel from ABP.
In 2010, Miller said, the new owners took over, improved some existing products and developed new ones, such as two armored patrol boats and a mobile armored clinic. Last year, the company, a licensed defense contractor, entered the market, began booking sales and moved to a new production center near Port Everglades. This year, he added, the company, with 18 full-time employees and a team of sales representatives, is fulfilling orders and promoting its products at trade shows and other events.
In addition, Armour Group has an agreement with Israeli Aerospace Industries, the government-owned company that produces military and commercial aerospace and defense systems and is Israel's largest industrial exporter. Under the agreement, the two companies sell and market each other's products, and jointly manufacture and develop other products.
In December 2011, Gov. Rick Scott traveled to Israel with representatives of Enterprise Florida to promote improved ties and greater trade, and met with Armour Group's CEO at IAI headquarters.
The company's products range in price from about $15,000 for a custom armor kit that can be installed in most vehicles to $1.5 million for an armored patrol boat or a mobile armored clinic.
The RhinoPak, for example, is a custom-designed kit that can be used on cars, SUVs or pickup trucks. The kit has ONEWAY®Return Fire Glass and armor on the sides and floor that can withstand firearms and improvised explosive devices. These kits, which can also be used in police cars, cost between $15,000 and $30,000.
Tatum pointed out that some kits are portable, can be moved into a battle zone and installed by two people in less than a day.

For transporting personnel, Armour Group offers the RhinoShuttle for about $120,000. Starting out with a Ford Econoline E-350 XL 12-passenger van, the company installs armored panels and clear, anti-ballistic glass that are not visible from the outside. After the vehicle is hardened, even with anti-ballistic glass, it appears to be a normal van, thus avoiding attention. When working with clients overseas, the van is purchased from a local Ford dealer so that spare parts and service are available.
The company also makes armored trucks, like the RhinoTac, which is built on a standard truck body and equipped so that the cab, motor and fuel tank are protected by armor plate. This vehicle carries a large box — a transportable armored capsule or Tac — with air conditioning, portable generator and fuel supply that can be lifted off and used as a guard station or mobile clinic, depending on its configuration. These vehicles, which can also be used to transport troops, may be fitted with a gun turret for a machine gun or water cannon, and cost $150,000 or more.
Armor and anti-ballistic glass are designed for different threat levels. For example, one type of armor is designed to withstand 9 mm bullets with certain characteristics, while a heavier type can tolerate .30 caliber armor-piercing bullets.
Run-flat tires, made by Hutchinson Industries, are installed on all vehicles. These tires have a steel core that allows the vehicle to move even if tires are hit by multiple rounds.
As part of its promotional material, Armour Group shows photos of Saddam Hussein leaving a RhinoRunner, an armored van that is one of the company's products.
"There are 53 RhinoRunners in Afghanistan, Kuwait and Iraq," Martin said. "They have been hit by everything and none has been destroyed. Saddam made his last trip — to the gallows — in one of them"
To make armor for each vehicle, the company buys armor plate, composite materials, polycarbonate and acrylic, strips down vehicles at its 14,000 square-foot plant and rebuilds the car or truck with armor plating and anti-ballistic glass. The One Way glass, which is more than three inches thick, is made at the plant using layers of polycarbonate and acrylic with a special resin bond.
Armour Group competes with a large number of other armor outfitters, but believes it has an edge because "We listen to what clients have to say, find out what the mission is and design our equipment to fit the mission," Miller said. Other suppliers try to make their products fit every mission, he added.
The company's armored land vehicles also have another big advantage, Tatum said. "Our vehicles are built with commercially off the shelf parts," he noted. The company uses Ford and International trucks for their armored vehicles. "This means parts are available commercially internationally."
The company did not release specific revenue data, but Miller said it expected sales to be in "the moderate eight figures" in 2012. To meet existing orders, Armour Group is seeking a variety of employees. It has a policy of hiring veterans and is looking for returning vets from the Middle East who worked as motor pool technicians and welders. In addition, it is seeking professionals in design engineering and procurement.
Armour Group receives letters of gratitude from some of the soldiers who have used their vehicles. The company published a letter from a U.S. Army captain in Iraq who described how 18 people in a RhinoRunner (armored bus) survived a "massive explosion" set off by a suicide bomber in a car that left a six-foot crater in the asphalt road.
"I am very thankful to be alive, as are the other 17 people on board," the unidentified captain said in his letter. "I have no doubt that had I been in any other vehicle, the result would have been catastrophically different. My wife and two young daughters are equally grateful. Please post this note where all of your employees can see it and receive my most humble thanks."

RhinoPAK™ Protecting Lives under Fire
Armour Group, Inc. continues to see increases in demand for its products worldwide. In addition to serving the U.S. Armed Forces and their key subcontractors, Armour Group also accommodates the needs of international customers and governments. Armour Group's mission to protect lives manifests itself in armor-protected vehicles, buildings, and interdiction vessels customized to the unique threats clients encounter.
As a sign of its growing international presence, Armour Group has been contracted to provide up-armor kits to a client faced with an increasingly common threat. The country's terrorist threat to destabilize the government has spread to the private sector. Now, workers in transport to the client's facility are facing the ongoing peril, experiencing terrorist-led ambush-type attacks. The hostile attacks occur along the narrow mountain passes through which workers, materials, and supplies must pass on their way to the facility.
With mounting concern for its workers, the client's search led them to Armour Group. Understanding the gravity of the situation, Armour Group applied its know-how and in short order designed, manufactured, and delivered up-armor RhinoPAKs™ for immediate installation on the transport vehicles. The RhinoPAKs™ protect against small arms fire and include Armour Group's patented ONEWAY® Return Fire Glass that provides an added level of defense in allowing vehicle occupants to return fire through the glass. Armour Group has displayed its agility in quickly meeting an immediate need for a quality solution to protect lives.
Armour Group estimates the value of the recent contract in the low seven figures.
RhinoPAKs™ have many benefits. Foremost is that they are customizable to fit existing civilian vehicles. They are easily and quickly installed, and are equipped with armor and ballistic glass to stop incoming bullets and fragmentation from blasts. RhinoPAKs™ are making a difference in workers' lives, protecting them and counteracting the terrorist threat.
With the global need for its armored and ballistic glass on the rise, Armour Group finds it rewarding to take part in providing affordable yet well-designed solutions.

Armour Group provides these products for military, law enforcement, and civilian use. Armour Group serves international customers and governments including the US Armed Forces, their various key subcontractors, the United Nations, and numerous commercial companies.
Armour Group is a licensed defense contractor and is a U.S. State Department International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR)-licensed manufacturer and exporter, and an ITAR-licensed arms broker.
Last week, Florida Governor Rick Scott and representatives from Enterprise Florida flew to Israel to continue the mission of improving Florida's economy. The goal of the trip was to strengthen ties between Florida and Israel.
The CEO of Armour Group, Mr. Robert Tatum, met with Governor Rick Scott and Enterprise Florida representatives at IAI headquarters. Armour Group has formed a teaming agreement with Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI). This agreement is a prime example of international business development Florida is fostering.
IAI is Israel's prime aerospace and aviation manufacturer. IAI also designs and builds fighter aircraft, mid-sized business jets, and maintains foreign-built military and civilian aircraft. The company also works on a number of missile, avionics, and space-based systems.
Armour Group and IAI are jointly developing new products, have reciprocal manufacturing agreements, and cooperatively sell each others' products.
When asked how the IAI-Armour Group relationship was benefitting Florida, Mr. Tatum responded, "In a period of economic recession, Armour Group has been able to bring high-paying manufacturing jobs to Broward County. It is personally and professionally rewarding to see our products protect lives in high-risk zones around the world and that we are contributing to the economic well-being of Florida's citizens at the same time."
By all indications, 2012 is projected to be an even better year than 2011 for Armour Group, with orders for armored vehicles, up-armor kits, and ballistic glass on the upswing.

November 20, 2011 Fort Lauderdale, FL
Master Gunner tests Armour Groups ONEWAY® Return Fire RhinoGLASS™
Armour Group, Inc., a leader in the industry of customized armored vehicles and special ballistic glass, was pleased to provide the Broward County Sheriff SWAT Master Gunner with their proprietary ONEWAY® Return Fire RhinoGLASS™ for a field test in June 2011. Armour Group has become known in the field for it superior bullet resistant glass products that offer substantially lower weight, less thickness, less distortion, higher clarity, and lower cost relative to other products on the market.
Since 1975, Broward County Sheriff's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams have responded to some of the county's most dangerous and potentially volatile law enforcement situations. They are the largest fully accredited sheriff's department in the nation with over 3,100 officers.
Broward County Sheriff Office was keenly interested in the performance Armour Group's patented ONEWAY® Return Fire RhinoGLASS™. Affording the highest levels of ballistic protection while allowing the ability to return fire from one side of the glass, RhinoGLASS™ is wholly unique in the industry. This "return fire" ability is the first major development in ballistic glass since it began production in the 1920s.
Broward County Sheriff Department recognizes the ability to have protection against small arms fire while retaining the ability to fire back holds a significant tactical advantage for their officers.
The ballistic test was conducted at their Markham Park Training Facility. Armour Group provided the RhinoGLASS™ from their local 30,000 square foot manufacturing facility where they engineer, develop, test and manufacturer a variety of ballistic glass, including ONEWAY® Return Fire RhinoGLASS™ and Starphire Night Vision Glass. The latter being a low-iron ballistic glass favored by military for use with night vision equipment.
The test was scaled to mimic the standards set forth by the U.S. National Institute of Justice which requires a specific series of projectiles and velocities. Armour Group ballistic glass has been tested for compliance by other independent ballistics laboratories such as the US Military's Aberdeen Proving Grounds and H.P. White Laboratory to other standards such MIL and EN 1063.
The three-part test was initiated by firing five (5) .223 Remington rounds at a distance of 50 feet. Upon inspection of the RhinoGLASS™ to confirm it stopped all five rounds, the glass was turned 180 degrees, a witness panel was removed and two rounds were fired through the other side of the RhinoGLASS™ to test the unique capability. As the silhouette target confirmed, both rounds went through the glass. The final part was to shoot at the strike face again to test the continued protection RhinoGLASS™ affords. The BSO Master Gunner was impressed after firing two 9mm Parabellum rounds at the glass from only 25 feet. RhinoGLASS™ stopped both rounds and the test was completed with the RhinoGLASS™ successful in stopping all 7 rounds to the strike face while allowing the two return fire shots to strike the target just as claimed.
Armour Group designs, manufactures and distributes vehicle armoring systems, specialized armored vehicles and ballistic glass products for law enforcement vehicles. This includes RhinoPAK up-armor kits for over 60 vehicles used in law enforcement, military and commercial applications. Armour Group's RhinoPAKs are customizable and include unique options, such as removable armor, should an officer require protection outside of their vehicle and the ability to install with a simple set of tools in under a day.
Armour Group's Rhino and other ballistic glass have been subjected to the rigors of combat that include extreme temperature changes and beating sun. While other ballistic glass begins to delaminate or turn yellow under these conditions, Armour Group's glass products have been proven superior without any of these issues.
Rhino ONEWAY® Glass provides superior personnel protection for high value buildings, police stations, cash-in-transit armored trucks, police cruisers, military vehicles, and executive protection. For more detail or contact info, see: www.thearmourgroup.com.

November 3, 2011 Fort Lauderdale, FL
RhinoSHUTTLE™ Armored Van Sale to Protect US Armed Forces Personnel Overseas.
The United States Armed Forces operate bases around the world. It is no secret that such bases can be located in or near zones of hostility and war. Too often while traveling through such zones U.S. personnel must endure weapons fire and civil unrest. In a move to bolster the protection of our personnel, Armour Group, Inc. announced yesterday that an important sale of the recently launched RhinoSHUTTLE™ has just been completed. US Armed Forces personnel stationed overseas will soon find themselves transported between the base and their quarters in a protective shell built entirely by Armour Group.
From all outward appearances the RhinoSHUTTLE™ is a Ford E350 XL 12-passenger van powered by a 5.5L V-8. The vehicle looks entirely civilian from the outside. The armored steel, composite materials and tinted armored glass are not visible to outside observers, thus reducing the vehicle's attractiveness to those of hostile intent.
Given the harsh climate and geography the vehicles may operate in, the RhinoSHUTTLE™ is equipped with a Heavy Duty package to improve the engine's ability to breathe, to bolster the suspension, and ensure the occupants' trip is conducted in relative comfort.
Armour Group's proprietary ONEWAY® Return Fire RhinoGLASS™ provides protection around the entire greenhouse. This unique bullet-resistant glass protects against weapons fire from the exterior, yet allows occupants to return fire through the glass with no loss in protective qualities. October 14, 2011 Fort Lauderdale, FL
Armour Group, Inc. a US defense contractor based in South Florida has announced the release of their newest armored bus, the RhinoSHUTTLE™.
Armour Group Inc., a leader in the industry of customized armored vehicles and special ballistic glass, has added a discreet option to their series of lightweight tactical vehicles.
Based on a Ford E350 XL 12-person van, mated with a 5.5L V-8, the RhinoSHUTTLE™ provides plenty of power and seating to shuttle key personnel, contractors, diplomats and executives in areas of potential hostility. The RhinoSHUTTLE™ was a response to clients calling for a transport bus that looks entirely civilian from the outside with heavy armor on the inside.
Armour Group's proprietary ONEWAY® Return Fire RhinoGLASS™ provides transparent armor around the entire greenhouse while the opaque armor is applied from the interior to provide subtle security. Additional options include bomb blankets, side curtain airbags, and run flat tires to increase the existing RhinoSHUTTLE™ protection levels up to NIJ Level IV / Euro B7.
One highlight of the RhinoSHUTTLE™ is the installation of the tinted RhinoGLASS™ allowing the ability to return fire from inside the vehicle while maintaining the structural integrity of the ballistic protection on theoutside. This is a supreme tactical advantage allowing the occupants to be transported in even greater security and comfort.
Designed to be specifically discreet, the RhinoSHUTTLE™ is a robust yet flexible vehicle that excels at personnel transport, with an ability to traverse a wide range of threat environments without becoming a target. With a factory warranty extended to 3 years, the lifecycle support costs are low and serviceable in all reaches of the globe.
Depending on the environment, additional options such as a Heavy Duty package will enhance the engines ability to breath and bolster the suspension allowing the RhinoSHUTTLE™ to stand up to the rigors of extreme climates around the globe.
Armour Group is licensed by the US State Department for International Traffic in Arms Regulation Manufacturing and Exporting.

With the full support of Lieutenant General Shoke, Chief of the South African National Defence Force, Armoured Vehicles South Africa focuses on the three main South African procurement programmes - Hoefyster (for new Infantry Fighting Vehicles), Sepula (for new Armoured Personnel Carriers) and Aorta (for a new Main Battle Tank) - and gathers together international experts to discuss the key themes of survivability, turret accuracy and through life capability support.
Key presentations include: Lieutenant General Solly Zacharia Shoke, Commander of the South African Army, delivering a keynote speech on the Future of the South African Army and the Capabilities Required for Peacekeeping and Partnership with Strategic Allies.
Mr. Bob Tatum, CEO, and Martin Miller, President of Armour Group, Inc, will lead a discussion regarding the challenges associated with asymmetric warfare. The presentation, Evolving International Threats of Asymmetric Warfare, explains how civilian targets in developing countries are at risk of this threat. Such countries aren't equipped to address the associated challenges. Furthermore, large scale armored vehicle manufactures require too great of a lead time to provide solutions. And once they provide a solution, the cost in dollars is too high for the developing nations.
Mr Dawie Griesel, Acting General Manager Army Acquisition, ARMSCOR, who will explain the role of the organisation in relation to South African Army requirements.
Brigadier General Theodore D. Martin, Commandant, US Army Armour School, speaking on the Future of Armour for Survivability: Showcasing the Work of the US Army Armour School.

July 7, 2011 Fort Lauderdale, FL
AM General's M809, M813, M814, M817 5-ton vehicles can be armored to protect lives
AM General manufactured the M8XX series of 5 ton vehicles for the US Army from the 1950s and well into the 1980s. The series featured cargo vehicles, dump trucks, tractors, etc., of varying wheel bases and bed lengths. The US government has since made the series available to other countries through FMS/FMF funds, and in a testament to their reliability and durability, over 50,000 M8XX vehicles are still in service worldwide.
The M8XX RhinoPAK® protects the cab (doors, roof, and windows) from all sides. It also provides engine compartment protection to reduce the risk of immobilization during an attack. The M8XX RhinoPAK® protects the driver and crew up to NIJ Level IV / EURO B7 / STANAG III for both opaque and transparent armor.
Optional armored protection can include the fuel tank, battery and air brakes. Other options available include run flat tire inserts, gun turret, gun ports, hydraulically-operated plow blade and remotely or manually controlled water cannon equipped with water or chemical spray and Armour Group's patented ONEWAY® Glass.

Another important option, the RhinoTAC (Transportable Armor Capsule), can be removed from the bed of the back of the M8XX. The TAC excels at troop transport; it is fully self-contained with its own diesel generator, air conditioning unit, battery, and fuel tank. The TAC can also be dropped at any location and used as a check point, guard house, for field communications or as a mobile command post.
RhinoPAK® portable armor kits have been used extensively in some of the most hostile environments. The kit's unique design and patented materials have withstood attacks ranging from firearms to improvised explosive devices. Two field personnel can install the RhinoPAK® in less than a day. Our armored solutions are proven to protect against threats from small arms fire through .50 caliber machine guns and improvised explosive devices.
Installation Requirements
- Two workers, two days
- Full set of tools (impact wrench, drill, saw, etc.)
- Rigging (shackles & straps)
- 6-ton Crane or Forklift (for hood, cab, & capsule installations)
Armour Group CEO, Bob Tatum, pleased with the potential of the RhinoPAK® stated: "The M8XX RhinoPAK® is a workhouse designed for the rugged terrain our troops work in. If even one life can be protected by our RhinoPAK®, then I will feel that we have accomplished our goal to protect and save lives."

Armored and Counter IED Vehicles Market US$25.1 Billion for 2011
May 17, 2011 Fort Lauderdale, FL
Armour Group upbeat on the 2011 Outlook for the Global armored and counter IED vehicles market
The global armored and counter IED vehicles market has an estimated value of US $25.1 billion for 2011. The cumulative market value for armored vehicles and counter IED vehicles during the forecast period is estimated at US$265 billion.
Despite the high fiscal deficit of North American countries, this region is expected to account for the largest share of the armored vehicles market during the forecast period, with a share of 31.9%. Countries in Europe are also facing high fiscal debt, which will reflect in the declining market for armored vehicles during the forecast period.
Europe is expected to account for 26.5% of the total armored vehicles market during this time. Strong economic growth, territorial disputes, domestic violence and the large troop size of regional forces will create a significant demand for armored vehicles in Asia, which will account for a share of 24.1% of the total armored vehicles market during the forecast period. Soaring oil prices and high economic development in the Middle East is expected to be reflected in the demand for armored vehicles in the region, which will account for 8.8% of the total armored vehicles market during the forecast period.
South American countries are expected to modernize their armed forces over the forecast period; and their main modernization priority is expected to be on the air force and navy, and for other electronic and cyber warfare capabilities. As a result, the demand for armored vehicles in the region will witness a slight increase, and South America will account for just 4.7% of the global armored vehicles market during the forecast period.
The demand for armored vehicles in Africa is expected to be strong in the forecast period, driven by the discovery of new mineral and oil resources, and territorial and ethnic disputes. However, the small defense budget of countries in the region will result in a small market share of 4.1%.

$40.4 Million Award from Afghanistan Government
December 13, 2010 Ft. Lauderdale, FL
Afghan Ministry of Interior to purchase RhinoRUNNER® Transport Buses and RhinoMEDIC Mobile Clinics for Kuchi Tribe
Armour Group has received an award from the Afghanistan Government for various armored vehicles including 34 Rhino MEDIC Mobile Medical facilities and 10 Rhino RUNNER Transport buses for the Kuchi indigenous tribes. The Afghanistan Independent Director General for the Kuchi Tribe has requested funding through USAID to purchase the vehicles. The purchase price for the RhinoMEDIC is $1,525,000 each and the RhinoRUNNER is $525,000 each. The Mobile Clinic configuration was designed by Advanced Mobile Hospital Systems (AMoHS). The RhinoMEDIC is based on Armour Group's RhinoRUNNER® bus. Contract Value $40.4 million.
The Kuchis are perhaps the poorest people in Afghanistan. They are overwhelmingly illiterate with no healthcare and educational facilities whatsoever. They are nomadic people living / migrating all over the thirty-four states of Afghanistan. They were the worst affected people during the 30-years war in Afghanistan. Although the Kuchi mortality rate at childbirth is very high, the US army medics from time to time have helped vaccinating Kuchi children but only in very limited way. USAID has also provided assistance in quite a few agricultural projects but the problem is the inaccessibility of the Kuchis who rarely visit the cities. Conversely, to visit the hostile areas where Kuchis live, safe and secure armoured protection transportation is of utmost importance.
The priority of the Afghan government is to provide the Kuchis the basic necessities of life and integrate them into the greater Afghani society and political life. The Kuchis are perhaps the most secular people in Afghanistan but because of their life style, poverty and the mountainous areas they live in, it is very easy for Islamic extremists such as the Taliban and other factions hostile to the Afghan Government and NATO forces to coerce and exploit them and turn them against the government. The Kuchis have been identified by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan as one of the largest vulnerable populations in the country.

February 2, 2009
A Ford Explorer equipped with the RhinoPAK® was carrying four US soldiers deployed to Iraq. Two IED blasts disabled the armored SUV, but the personnel survived, and walked from the vehicle unharmed.
"We had a rough convoy on January 28th. I was in the rear vehicle and the convoy commander. We were heading north on a main highway through Baghdad and ran straight into a large gun battle between some insurgents, Iraqi police, and the US military. Unfortunately for us it occurred as we came over a large overpass, and we had no place to go but into the fight, before we could turn around and head back to base. We had to engage some insurgents at this point. When I dismounted from the truck to command the convoy I could hear the bullets flying by. I was firing my M4 gangster style one handed to my right and talking on my radio with the left.

We managed to make a U-Turn and laid down some fire (We had two large SLOW military vehicles in our convoy) and headed back to base. When we got back to the main gate of the base the military stopped us and said there was a VBIED (Vehicle Borne IED) at the gate and they were trying to defuse it. So thinking most insurgent battles here only last 30 minutes or so I decided to try and head north again.
We rolled back north and as we came over the same overpass but on the oncoming traffic side I could hear the gunfire from the prior gun battle. At this time our lead vehicle stopped the convoy to determine an exit plan. As we stopped, a large machine gun (PKM) opened fire on us. The gun fire was hitting just short of my truck and the median was getting ripped up. We then took a hit to the front of my truck and we began to lose power. We were sitting still and there was no way we could back those two military vehicles off the bridge. So I called for us to push over the bridge and thru the other gunfight.
We started to crawl forward at a slow speed. I was thinking that at any time my truck was going to stall so I started throwing smoke grenades over the truck to conceal us in case we needed to bail out of the truck. Just as I started throwing the grenades, a black BMW rolled by on the side road. The windows came down and three insurgents with AKs popped out. My truck monkey saw what was about to happen, and rained down the hate on them with his SAW. With the BMW smoking on the road we started to gain speed. The PKM stopped shooting (Thank God) and we came over the bridge.
The main battle was going on under the bridge. I saw military personnel running around, and an IP truck shot up on the road. We cleared the area without any more problems. We made it to a safe area and checked out my truck. It had one large bullet hole thru the grill but was not losing fluid. It just sounded bad and didn't have much power. It would only run 110 kpm.
We then headed into a town called Taji. As we passed the town, we had to slow down for some military vehicles that were blocking to road. As we approached, I saw that the problem was a knocked out M1 tank on the road. The military was recovering the tank, which is never a good sign.
We passed the military and headed north. We then headed into a town called Kart. As we passed thru the town, the vehicle directly in front of me was hit by a massive IED. A huge explosion engulfed the road and vehicle. Both disappeared from view. My truck slowed and per SOP we did a U-turn to avoid entering a kill zone.
The vehicle occupants radiod that the vehicle was down with casualties. I made contact with the rest of our convoy, gave them instructions and then headed into the kill zone to recover our people.

As we turned around the cloud of dust started to settle and I could see a long line of diesel fuel on the roadway heading north. We sped down the road and I could see the truck on the side of the road, 300 or so meters past the point where it had been hit. As we pulled up on the left side of the truck, I jumped out and ran up to the truck. When I opened the door, I saw the passengers looking back at me with a 'deer in the headlights' look. I yelled at them to get out of the truck and move to my truck. Although they heard me, they were still stunned by the IED. I grabbed the front right passenger, and the rest of the passengers started to move. There were four shooters in the cab of the truck and three shooters in the bed of the truck inside an armored gun box. Two of the shooters in the box were on their first Cochise convoy.
it was obvious that the rear left shooter was seriously injured. He had taken the blast to the face and was a bloody mess. The truck looked like Swiss cheese. We set up security and moved the shooters and gear to my truck. At first, I wanted to burn the truck, but since we were not taking any fire and had a military vehicle that could haul the truck, I decided to push it down the road to the rest of the convoy. One shooter and I piloted the hit truck with its four flat tires as the rear truck push us down the road 1000 meters or so. When we got back to the rest of our team, the medics went into over drive and started treating the wounded. I then found out that one of the shooters in the box had some shrapnel in his back. The military that was recovering the M1 had seen us get hit by the IED and came to our location. They set up a security perimeter, and called in a medevac. We loaded the damaged truck on the military vehicle. The helicopter came in and I sent out the wounded. We then loaded up and headed north to the next military base.
Next, we decided to continue the mission, albeit through a known danger zone. We headed north and all appeared ok. As we passed the city of Tikrit, I observed a speeding white vehicle about to cross an overpass that we were about to pass under. I tracked the vehicle with my rifle just as our lead vehicle passed under the overpass. Just as it went under the overpass, it was hit by two IEDs, one high and one low.
Since we had the speed I called for the convoy to push thru on the opposite side of the road. The affected truck was running but they had two casualties. Since we were only 500 meters from our final destination we decided to keep moving toward the base. Unfortunately, the vehicle died before we got there. We pushed it the rest of the way into the base with one of the other trucks.
We cross loaded the injured and sent them into the base for medical help. The driver had taken some shrapnel to the back and the rear right shooter's hand was severely injured.
After resetting the fuel cut-off switch, the truck started without a problem. We rolled it with its two flat tires into the camp and changed the tires. Since it had lost its brake fluid, we drove it onto the base using the emergency brake.
So that was what our day looked like on January 28th and we still had to drive back on the 29th.
